Who are we???

News Flash we now have a Facebook page here to advise Sunday running info. If we are open on dodgy weather days, is there a steam engine running etc. Can't guarrentee it will be always upto date but if you send a message to the page, one of the admins will pick it up.

The ticket price is $2 per ride. In response to Covid-19, the Committee has decided that tickets will no longer be issued and we now have a NO CASH policy. EPTPOS only please. Children under 2-years of age ride free. Rail crossing safety message

The Railway is very popular with the public, everyone enjoys riding the trains, so this is a great facility for the public of Tauranga and visitors. Safety is of paramount importance with very regular maintenance carried out on the track, locomotives and ride cars.

The Clubrooms and Ticket Office is Palmerville Station, phone (07) 578 7293 (Sundays only).

BIG news. The locomotive UP4005 ( 4-8-8-4) that spent 35 years in Oregon is now in Tauranga. Known as the Big Boy, it is 5.3m long and weighs a lot. A video of the shift can be seen here

There is a  2-1/2", 3-1/2" and 5" raised track, with a tunnel, for the smaller locomotives, regularly used for smaller steam locomotives.

The ground level track caters for 5" and 7-1/4" locomotives, is three circuits with two tunnels, with the third circuit of track rising a couple of metres above ground level, with elevated viaduct to add additional interest for the public and members.

As well as electric and petrol powered club locomotives, several members have built and run good sized steam locomotives, which create a lot of interest with children and adults alike.

2015 Tauranga Santa Parade. We won FIRST place for our outstanding floats. See here for the photos.
